durante a residência artística da primeira edição do projeto Soy Loco por ti Juquery, quando tive a oportunidade de investigar criativamente as particularidades do Complexo Hospitalar do Juquery, pude estabelecer um contato inicial com o acervo de obras hoje abrigadas pelo Museu de Arte Osório Cesar – MAOC. dentre elas me chamou atenção em particular um dos trabalhos de (João) Rubens Neves Garcia, que figura a ocorrência iminente de um ataque aéreo a partir da aproximação de dezenas de aviões no horizonte e da mobilização de tropas posicionadas em solo, que apontam canhões e outros armamentos para as aeronaves.

naquele momento, a tela do artista me impactou fortemente por seu caráter quase cinematográfico, da impressão de uma cena prestes a se desenrolar a qualquer instante diante dos olhares de seus observadores. Mais do que isso, o potencial devir daquela representação me levou a refletir sobre as possíveis sonoridades agenciadas pela imagem produzida por Rubens. A pintura, apesar de silenciosa, me pareceu, já naquele momento, chamar por escuta.

esta primeira impressão me remete, atualmente, e diante da possibilidade de reinterpretar aquela obra, a uma discussão sobre o predomínio da visualidade na cultura ocidental em detrimento de outros aspectos da percepção.

assim, em “Alerta para o horizonte: vestível para escuta e observação do céu”, me aproximo da figuração de Rubens buscando fazê-la soar. E, pela primeira vez, após mais de uma década dedicada à produção de instalações, performances e intervenções nas quais venho me dedicando especificamente às sonoridades, com uso de diferentes suportes tecnológicos, arrisco uma convergência entre o som e a imagem e procuro criar uma situação na qual a observação do céu dialoga com uma peça sonora inspirada na tela de Rubens.

mirar o horizonte com um binóculo e escutar uma composição elaborada a partir de gravações históricas de ataques aéreos da Segunda Guerra Mundial: uma proposta sinestésica de leitura da paisagem que mobiliza o olhar a partir de elementos sonoros, tão presentes em nossas apropriações do entorno.

during the artistic residency of the first edition of the Soy Loco por ti Juquery project, when I had the opportunity to creatively investigate the particularities of the Juquery Hospital Complex, I was able to establish initial contact with the collection of works currently housed by the Osório Cesar Art Museum – MAOC . among them, one of the works by (João) Rubens Neves Garcia caught my attention in particular, which depicts the imminent occurrence of an air attack following the approach of dozens of planes on the horizon and the mobilization of troops positioned on the ground, pointing cannons and other armaments for aircraft.

at that moment, the artist's canvas had a strong impact on me due to its almost cinematic character, the impression of a scene about to unfold at any moment before the eyes of its observers. More than that, the potential future of that representation led me to reflect on the possible sounds created by the image produced by Rubens. The painting, despite being silent, seemed to me, even at that moment, to call for listening.

this first impression takes me, currently, and given the possibility of reinterpreting that work, to a discussion about the predominance of visuality in Western culture to the detriment of other aspects of perception.

thus, in “Alert for the horizon: wearable for listening and observing the sky”, I approach Rubens’ figuration seeking to make it sound. And, for the first time, after more than a decade dedicated to the production of installations, performances and interventions in which I have been dedicating myself specifically to sounds, using different technological supports, I risk a convergence between sound and image and seek to create a situation in which observation of the sky dialogues with a sound piece inspired by Rubens' canvas.

looking at the horizon with binoculars and listening to a composition created from historical recordings of air raids from the Second World War: a synesthetic proposal for reading the landscape that mobilizes the gaze based on sound elements, so present in our appropriations of the surroundings.
